Domotics und Inmotics sind Technologien, die sich mit der Automatisierung von Häusern und Gebäuden beschäftigen. Sie bieten vielfältige Möglichkeiten, wie z. B. intelligentes Energiemanagement, Sicherheitskontrolle gegen Einbruch und Feuer, Beleuchtungssteuerung, Jalousiesteuerung, Klimasteuerung und Zugangskontrolle.

Domotik ist die Technologie, die für die Hausautomatisierung zuständig ist und diese zu intelligenten Systemen macht, während Inmotik die Automatisierungstechnologie ist, die auf Gebäude angewendet wird, mit dem gleichen Zweck wie Domotik, aber in einem größeren Maßstab, was zu intelligenten Gebäuden führt. Beide Technologien basieren auf Kommunikationsprotokollen und Software, die über drahtgebundene oder drahtlose Netzwerke (Zig-Bee) zur Steuerung und Verwaltung von Geräten (Hardware) integriert sind.

Für die Entwicklung von domotischen und inmotischen Automatisierungssystemen gibt es unterschiedliche Kommunikationsstandards. Die heute am weitesten verbreiteten sind die Protokolle KNX-EIB, LONworks, Z-WAVE und BacNet. In der Beleuchtung ist das DALI-Steuerungssystem besonders wichtig. Alle diese Systeme haben eine eigene Programmiersoftware mit Sensoren und Aktoren. Die am häufigsten verwendeten Sensoren auf dem Markt sind z. B. Anwesenheitssensoren, Näherungssensoren, Helligkeitssensoren, Temperatursensoren, Barrieresensoren, Netzhautsensoren, Infrarotsensoren, Leitfähigkeitssensoren zur Erkennung von Wasserlecks, Gassensoren, Kohlenmonoxidsensoren, Glasbruchsensoren, Magnetsensoren für Türen und Fenster, Sensoren zur Messung des Energieverbrauchs usw. Mit der Programmiersoftware ist es möglich, verschiedene Szenarien zu erstellen, die diese Geräte mit verschiedenen Aktoren verbinden, wie z. B. Wasserelektroventile, Gaselektroventile, Dimmer für die Beleuchtungssteuerung, akustische Alarme für Einbruch- oder Feueralarm, Geräte mit binären Ausgängen usw.
