ALLGEMEINE BESCHREIBUNG

The Unit to Study Rotational Inertia, "SRI", has been designed to carry out tests to analyze the moments of inertia of a solid and a hollow cylinder, both with same mass and diameter. The moment of inertia of another hollow cylinder with different mass but same diameter can also be compared.

Besides, systems with different weight and distribution of weights can be studied with a rotating rod to which different weights can be attached in various positions (at different distances from the center).

The unit consists of two support rods. One rod is the rotation axis with the body under study and from the other rod a uniformly accelerated rotational motion in the rotation axis is generated. The rotation axis is accelerated by a fixed pulley and a cable wound on it, where a weight is hung.

The moment of inertia is determined with the measurements of the time (with a chronometer), the mass under study and the acceleration distance.
