9.9.- VERBRENNUNGSMOTOREN
Ein Verbrennungsmotor ist eine strömungsmechanische Maschine, die nach einem Verbrennungsvorgang im Arbeitszylinder die chemische Energie des Kraftstoff-Luft-Gemisches in mechanische Energie umwandelt. Bei der Verbrennung wird die im Kraftstoff enthaltene Energie durch dessen Zündung und anschließende Oxidation im Motor freigesetzt.

- Otto-Zyklus-Verbrennungsmotor: Dies ist der herkömmliche Ottomotor.
- Dieselmotor: läuft mit Dieselkraftstoff.
Otto- und Dieselmotoren haben die gleichen Hauptelemente (Block, Kolben, Pleuelstange, Kurbelwelle, Ventile und Zylinderkopf) und enthalten die gleichen Systeme (Antriebssystem, Verteilung, Zündung, Kühlung und Start) mit Ausnahme einiger spezifischer Elemente wie dem Vergaser für Otto oder der Einspritzdüse für Diesel.
Je nach Betriebszyklus lassen sich Verbrennungsmotoren wie folgt einteilen:
- Zweitakt: Sie führen bei jeder Umdrehung einen Nutzhub aus.
- Viertakt: Sie machen alle zwei Umdrehungen einen Nutzhub.
Diese Motoren heben sich aus mehreren Gründen von anderen Antriebsmethoden ab:
- Autonomer Betrieb, aufgrund des hohen Heizwertes der Brennstoffe.
- Großer Leistungsbereich.
- Große Anzahl von konstruktiven Möglichkeiten.
Es ist wichtig, die Verbrennungsemissionen dieser Motoren zu untersuchen, da sie derzeit einen der Hauptschadstoffe darstellen. Obwohl die Verschmutzungswerte einzeln nicht repräsentativ sind, stellen sie, wenn man sie auf die gesamte Gruppe bezieht, einen schädlichen Schwerpunkt dar, wenn man berücksichtigt, dass sie in der Mehrzahl der Kraftfahrzeuge eingebaut sind.
