General Description

The Computer Controlled and Touch Screen 4 l/h Corrosive Solvent Recovery Distillation, "CSRD/4/CTS", is able to show, for further investigation and study, the separation of water from a mixture composed of the organic solvent Gamma-Valerolactone (GVL) and different acids. In addition, the unit has the main elements made of borosilicate glass, which allows the study of corrosive processes.

The unit consists of a distillation column with a head to regulate the reflux ratio, a reboiler as reaction medium, a stirrer, a preheater and a heating mantle to reach the process temperature, a heat exchanger and a distillate condenser and three storage tanks.

The mixture is introduced into the feed tank and pumped to the boiler, where it is preheated by means of a pump action. Once in the boiler, the necessary heat is supplied until the boiling point of the most volatile component is reached. An agitator suitable for corrosive fluids is used to homogenize the mixture in the boiler.

A piston with a linear actuator is installed in the column head to regulate the reflux ratio. The most volatile component (water) is collected by distillate and the heavier components are collected by tails.

The cooling system, consisting of a pump, a pressure regulator and two exchangers, allows condensing the reaction fluids and thus separating the light components (water) from the heavy ones.

This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + Computer Control, Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.
