General Description

The DC Shunt Excitation Motors Application, "AEL-DCSH", has been designed by EDIBON to demonstrate the most important operations and manoeuvres carried out with DC Shunt Electrical Motors.

These operations are mainly the following: Start / Stop the DC Shunt Electrical Motor, speed control of the DC Shunt motor using a variable resistor and a DC variable source, and simulate an emergency stop system for DC shunt motor. The student will learn the most important operations of these electrical machines faithfully by using commutators and contactors.

  1. DC motor speed control.
  2. DC machine turning direction control.
  3. DC machine speed reading.
  4. Excitation current control.
  5. DC machine speed reading.

MORE PRACTICAL EXERCISES TO BE DONE WITH THE UNIT

Some possible practices with the recommended additional elements:

  1. Rotor current measurement and torque estimation.
  2. Measurement of armature voltage.

Several other exercises can be done and designed by the user.
