General Description

The Protection Relays Test Application, "ERP", is one of the most advanced and safe units in the market for studying the operation of protection relays used in real electrical substations. This unit provides students, professors, and researchers with the necessary knowledge and experience in the field of high voltage protection and cybersecurity relays.

This application consists of the Protection Relays Test Base Unit, "ERP-UB," which is the main element where electrical tests and interconnections are carried out.

  • ERP-UB. The base unit is built with an aluminum and steel frame, prepared to withstand the most severe electrical tests. It also has a set of thermal and differential protections for the protection of the user and the unit. Any human failure will be supported by these back-up protections. These protections give service to two panels with safety terminals that allow the connection of the different protection relays to be tested.
  • ERP-MF. On the other hand, it is required the Fault Injection, "ERP-MF", designed by EDIBON, which allows any type of fault to be safely injected. By means of a multi-selector, the device can be pre-configured to inject single-phase, two-phase, two-ground, three-phase, and three-ground faults. In addition, it also has a switch that allows selecting the fault impedance.
  • ERP-CBM. Finally, it is important to note that this unit is prepared to study cybersecurity systems. To do this, it is recommended to acquire the Cybersecurity Application, "ERP-CBM", designed by EDIBON. Today, cybersecurity has become critically important in the field of power systems, as it is essential to protect them not only from potential electrical faults but also from the growing threat of hacker intrusions via the internet.
  • Protection Relays. In order to study high-voltage protection systems in depth, it is recommended to acquire at least one of the protection relays offered in this catalog:
    • Differential Protection Relay, "ERP-PDF"
    • Feeder Management Relay, "ERP-MA"
    • Directional/Non-Directional Overcurrent Protection Relay, "ERP-SDND"
    • Overcurrent and Earth Fault Protection Relay, "ERP-SFT"
    • Distance Protection Relay, "ERP-PD"
The protection relays, designed by EDIBON, are supplied with a programming software for the setting of all the parameters inherent to each type of relay, such as protection 21, 27, 32, 50, 51, 59, 67, 81, 87, etc. These relays can be programmed directly from their front panel or through the corresponding software. The software provided with these relays is a powerful tool that, in addition to allowing relay configuration, features an HMI function to monitor in real-time the electrical parameters measured by the protection relays and capture graphical records of electrical faults for subsequent analysis.
  • ERP-GMGPT. It is also recommended to acquire the Motor-Generator with Protection Relays and Automatic Regulation, "ERP-GMGPT". This is a complete power generation system formed by an electric motor and an independently excited three-phase synchronous generator. It also includes a multi-function AVR excitation and speed controller that fulfills the protective functions of a power plant.
