The Biomedical Microwave Thermal Effects Teaching Unit, "BIMTE", allows the students to test microwave therapy, so as to achieve a better knowledge on its functioning and internal mechanism.

The Biomedical Microwave Thermal Effects Teaching Unit, "BIMTE", includes:

  • Real model of the microwave instrument.
  • Model of an arm to apply the microwave therapy in order to understand is effects. It consists of a biological tissue simulator that allows the study of the diathermic effect of microwaves. It is based on three layers of materials with acoustic properties and thicknesses similar to layers of skin, soft tissue (fat and muscle) and bone. This simulation has several temperature sensors at various depths so that the thermal effects produced by the device can be measured.

Exercises and guided practices

GUIDED PRACTICAL EXERCISES INCLUDED IN THE MANUAL

  1. Study of the thermal and athermal effect according to the type of emission.
  2. Study of the diathermic effect according to the power in continuous mode.
  3. Study of the diathermic effect according to the power in alternating mode.
  4. Study of the thermal effect according to the position of the applicator.
