8.7.- MESIN FLUIDA

Sebuah aplikasi khusus, area komunikasi dalam mekanika fluida adalah yang bertanggung jawab untuk mempelajari fluida mesin. Mesin fluida adalah perangkat yang mengubah energi fluida yang melewatinya atau mentransfer energi ke fluida. Fluida tersebut dapat berupa gas, uap atau cair.

Berdasarkan definisi tersebut, mesin fluida dapat diklasifikasikan sebagai berikut:

  • Mesin pembangkit.
  • Turbin: torsi dan tenaga disediakan pada poros sebagai hasil dari variasi jumlah gerakan fluida yang melewatinya.
  • Turbin angin: energi kinetik angin diubah menjadi energi mekanik.
  • Mesin memakan daya.
  • Pompa: energi mekanik disuplai ke fluida dalam bentuk pekerjaan untuk menggantikan penurunan tekanan yang dialami fluida akibat gesekan pada pipa.
  • Kipas: sejumlah besar gas dipindahkan sebagai akibat dari peningkatan tekanan yang dihasilkan. Ada dua tipe dasar kipas: kipas blower atau sentrifugal dan kipas aliran aksial.
  • Kompresor: aliran yang dipindahkan lebih sedikit jika dibandingkan dengan kipas, tetapi peningkatan tekanannya jauh lebih tinggi.

Mesin telah dirancang sejak zaman kuno dengan tujuan menggunakan energi yang disediakan oleh alam. Misalnya, konversi energi mekanik menjadi energi hidrolik oleh mesin sangat menarik bagi sebagian besar insinyur dan teknisi. Beberapa mesin hidrolik klasik adalah kincir air Romawi atau pers hidrolik. Saat ini, kita dikelilingi oleh mesin fluida dalam kehidupan kita sehari-hari. Beberapa contohnya adalah mesin pesawat, sirkuit pompa di kolam renang atau mobil, kincir angin, kipas pendingin di komputer atau kipas yang digunakan di rumah.
