7.3.- TEKNIK MATERIAL

Teknik material adalah cabang ilmiah dan industri yang bertanggung jawab untuk membuat interpretasi industri dari ilmu material. Secara antropologis, berbagai tahapan manusia pengembangan telah diklasifikasikan menurut bahan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan alat (Zaman Batu, Zaman Perunggu, dll.). Dengan demikian, perkembangan umat manusia terkait erat dengan studi tentang bahan baru.

Selama 200 tahun terakhir, penemuan tentang material, yang mengungkapkan kontribusi dari Gibbs, telah dibuat. Dia mendemonstrasikan adanya hubungan antara properti material dan strukturnya. Penemuan ini telah memungkinkan pengembangan materi baru, seperti graphene, dan penyelidikan bidang baru, seperti nanomaterial atau nanoteknologi.

Sejumlah besar pengujian telah dilakukan untuk mencapai tingkat pengembangan tersebut, termasuk pengujian tekukan mekanis, pengujian kekerasan (Rockell, Brinell, Vickers, Martens), uji torsi, uji tarik (ketangguhan dan ketahanan), uji tarik (creep ), pengujian geser, serta uji kimia (perlakuan termal, struktur internal, dll.). Demikian pula, bahan dapat diklasifikasikan sebagai:

  • Logam (ferrous dan non-ferrous).
  • Keramika.
  • Polimer (termoplastik, plastik termoseting, dan elastomer).
  • Bahan komposit.

Penerapan kemajuan ini terbukti di berbagai area industri, seperti otomotif, elektronik, dirgantara, aeronautika dan biomedis, sehingga memberikan teknik material pentingnya hal tersebut dalam masyarakat saat ini.
