12.3.- PENGOBATAN AIR MINUM

Air minum, yaitu air yang cocok untuk konsumsi manusia adalah hal mendasar dalam peradaban apa pun. Selain itu, permintaan akan air minum tumbuh karena peningkatan populasi dan perkembangan industri.

Air minum diperoleh setelah melalui serangkaian perlakuan fisik, kimiawi dan biologis. Instalasi pengolahan air minum (DWTP) tercipta berkat kebutuhan air minum ini.

Tahapan utama atau proses yang dilakukan di DWTP adalah:

    1. Penerimaan dan homogenisasi air yang memasuki sistem.
    2. Perlakuan awal atau penyaringan dari bahan kasar: menghilangkan padatan yang dapat menyebabkan kerusakan pada pemasangan.
    3. Proses reaksi dengan penambahan oksidan dan koagulan. Tahap ini menghilangkan bau, rasa, patogen dan bahan anorganik (mineral) atau bahan organik (asam, nitrit, dll.). Bergantung pada kontaminan, teknik yang berbeda digunakan: aerasi, kalium permanganat, klorin, dll.
    4. Sedimentasi menghilangkan padatan berukuran lebih kecil yang masih terkandung di dalam air, biasanya menggunakan flokulan.
    5. Filtrasi menyelesaikan proses klarifikasi setelah sedimentasi.
    6. Pengkondisian. Penyesuaian pH dilakukan, terkadang fluoridasi dan desinfeksi untuk membunuh patogen. Besi dan mangan juga dihilangkan. Langkah ini penting karena air harus dianalisis setelah perawatan dan harus diverifikasi bahwa air memenuhi persyaratan legal untuk pasokan.
    7. Penyimpanan dan pasokan air yang telah diolah atau dimurnikan.

Saat ini, undang-undang terus menuntut kualitas yang lebih baik dalam pemurnian air, jadi teruslah belajar dan meneliti proses dan teknologi untuk pengolahan air diperlukan.
