9.8.- MESIN TERMAL

Mesin termal adalah sekumpulan elemen mekanis yang melakukan pekerjaan melalui proses siklik di mana energi melintasi dari fokus panas ke fokus dingin melalui fluida yang dapat dimampatkan.

Pada mesin termal, perubahan massa jenis yang signifikan terjadi pada fluida kerja saat melewati mesin. Sebaliknya, perubahan ini dapat diabaikan pada mesin hidrolik.

Ada beberapa kriteria untuk klasifikasi mesin termal:

  • Menurut arah transfer energi: mesin motor atau pembangkit
  • Bergantung pada formasi: berputar atau alternatif.
  • Bergantung pada kontinuitas aliran: volumetrik atau aliran kontinu.
  • Bergantung pada tempat pembakaran: pembakaran luar atau pembakaran dalam.

Mesin pembangkit termal terpenting adalah:

  • Turbin : Ini adalah mesin berputar yang dilalui fluida secara terus menerus dan mentransmisikan energinya melalui poros. Tekanan fluida berkurang saat melewati bilah mesin, membuatnya berputar.
  • Mesin pembakaran dalam: seperti namanya, ini adalah jenis mesin yang memperoleh energi mekanik langsung dari hasil pembakaran bahan bakar di dalam sebuah ruang. Yang paling umum adalah mesin bolak-balik (siklus Otto), mesin diesel (siklus diesel) dan Stirling.
  • Mesin uap: ini adalah mesin pembakaran eksternal yang mengubah energi termal menjadi energi mekanik. Ini adalah mesin yang digunakan di pembangkit listrik.

Mesin termal digunakan untuk siklus daya. Mereka dapat digunakan untuk siklus di pembangkit listrik, seperti siklus Rankine untuk uap, atau untuk propulsi dengan siklus Brayton saat bekerja dengan gas.
