The Ship Stability Study Facility, "USSB", designed by EDIBON, is a modular unit designed for the experimental analysis of the stability, hydrostatics and behaviour of scale models of ships in floating conditions.
The unit allows work with different interchangeable ship models, adapted to various types of study, such as stability analysis, behaviour under flooding or the influence of loads.
Each model reproduces the real characteristics of specific vessels, facilitating a practical understanding of the fundamental principles of naval engineering:
- USSB/A. Rectangular Barge Model. A model designed to study the basic principles of stability and buoyancy in boats. Its simplified geometry allows for a practical analysis of the influence of mass distribution, conditions of equilibrium and the boat’s response to different load configurations.
- USSB/B. Trawler Boat Model. A model designed to study the stability and division of work vessels. It enables the analysis of the effects of flooding, load distribution and the vessel’s response under various operating conditions, thereby facilitating an understanding of phenomena related to ship safety and stability.
- USSB/C. Crane Ship Model. A model designed to study stability during operations involving suspended loads. It enables analysis of the influence of mass displacement, equilibrium conditions and the vessel’s response during load-lifting and transport operations.
- USSB/V. Vibration Study Model. A model designed for the experimental analysis of the dynamic response of naval structures. It enables the study of vibration phenomena, natural frequencies and modes of vibration, thereby facilitating an understanding of the fundamental principles of dynamic analysis as applied to ships.
For conducting tests, the unit is complemented by the USSB Base Unit, "USSB-UB", which provides a controlled environment for studying buoyancy and stability under real immersion conditions.
Additionally, the unit can incorporate in an additional the Angle Stability Accessories for USSB, "USSB/ASA", suitable for the "USSB/A", "USSB/B" and "USSB/C" models this includes the necessary components for measuring the righting moment and analysing the vessel’s behaviour at different angles of heel. This unit enables precise testing under controlled conditions, significantly expanding the unit’s experimental capabilities.
The combination of these elements enables the user to approach the study of vessel stability in a progressive and comprehensive manner, adapting to different levels of training and testing requirements.
