近年来，由于新的工业革命或 "工业4.0"，"工业物联网"（IIoT）和 "智能工厂 "的出现，由于在现有装置的改造中，在新装置的设计中应用了最先进的技术，可以适应这些需求。

尽管有了这些技术进步和详尽的控制措施，但不能忘记，在生产过程中涉及到的所有元件都会受到机械和电气的磨损（努力、负荷等），其使用寿命是有限的。为了避免灾难性的故障，生产停止或任何类型的过程，这意味着非生产时间的增加，从而增加了成本，进行良好的机械和电气系统等的维护是非常重要的。
