一些最常见的例子在工业上是流量控制系统,通过气动阀或电磁阀的流体的水平或温度,控制系统的pH值的解决方案,通过计量泵或控制系统的压力和流量的气体。然而,在大型工业工厂中,这些简单的控制回路并不是孤立发生的,而是作为由分布式控制系统或DCS控制的更复杂过程的一部分。在这些系统中,简单的控制回路由工业控制器和/或可编程逻辑控制器(PLC)进行本地调节,并由中央监督控制和数据采集系统(SCADA)进行监控。
