General Description

The Computer Controlled and Touch Screen 20 l Anti-Corrosive Circulation Reactor, "ACCR/20/CTS", is able to show, for further research and study, the fractionation of biomass into its three components of interest: high quality cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, by using an organic solvent, Gamma-Valerolactone (GVL). In addition, the unit has the main elements made of PTFE/ PFA/ECTFE, which allows the study of highly corrosive processes.

The unit consists of a piston digester reactor, a magnetic drive pump for fluid recirculation, a quartz heating element to reach the process temperature and a cooling system.

The biomass and the reaction fluid are introduced into the reactor. As the biomass is porous and solid, a good mixing of the feed is not achieved by itself, and as it is not possible to use a mixer in the reactor because the feed is solid and strongly corrosive, the agitation of the liquid reaction medium is achieved with the action of the pump.

To achieve the process conditions, a quartz heater is used and the temperature and pressure in the circuit are measured. A vacuum pump is used to create a vacuum in the process to eliminate the gas bubbles retained in the pores of the wood and achieve greater efficiency in the reaction. The cooling system, consisting of a cooling tube, a coil and a pump, allows the process to be brought to ambient conditions.

A piston is used to press the solid component, which starts pressing the solid by applying pressure and stops pressing the solid by applying vacuum.

This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + Computer Control, Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.
