General Description

The Three-Phase Transformer Construction Unit, "TPTC", has been designed by EDIBON for theoretical and practical training in the field of three-phase transformers. This unit offers several levels of training that will provide the user with essential knowledge and skills on the fundamental principles of three-phase transformer construction and commissioning.

The "TPTC" unit requires a hand winder to practice winding the included transformer. The Manual Winding Machine for Motors and Transformers, MWMT, has several molds for the construction of windings of different sizes. Therefore, there are different copper sections that can be used in the manufacturing process. The transformers are supplied disassembled in pieces, with the core being supplied in U-shaped iron pieces for the winding arrangement, the winding columns and the upper support where the transformer connections can be made.

During the manufacturing process, students will be able to understand the electromagnetic operation of a three-phase transformer, understanding how different parameters such as the section of a conductor and the number of turns of a winding influence the magnetic flux induced from the primary winding to the secondary winding of the transformer.

Once the windings are built, the user will proceed to place them in the transformer and verify their operation. In the verification process, the user will be able to compare the calculations made theoretically with the measurements obtained, which will provide an insight into the sources of transformer losses and the expected efficiency values. It is important to clarify that transformers are highly efficient elements, so a significant variation between calculations and measurements could indicate an error in the construction.

Finally, with this unit it will be possible to perform the open circuit test, which will indicate the efficiency of the transformer core, since this element presents losses related to its permeability.

This unit includes the detachable three-phase transformer kit and a toolbox for the assembly of the transformer components, as well as several copper windings of different sections. On the other hand, several items such as a three-phase variable power supply, a multimeter to check the electrical parameters of the machine and the hand winder are required. These last elements are indispensable for the elaboration of the practices indicated in this catalog.
